해외 호스팅 회사의 경우, 보안 문제로 폴더 권한의 777 혹은 755의 변경을 제한하는 곳이 종종 있는데, 1and1의 경우 아무 제한없이 변경할 수 있다(제로보드4의 경우 폴더권한 이슈로 해외 호스팅에 설치가 굉장히 힘들었는데, XE로 넘어 오면서 대부분의 해외 호스팅 업체에 설치가 가능하다). 또한, DB 추가 설치와 설정 변경이 매우가 간단하여, 한 사이트에 서브 도메인을 이용해서 여러개의 제로보드를 설치하거나 각각의 도메인에 별도의 제로보드를 이용하려는 사용자들에게 추천한다. 그리고, 도메인의 Destination 옵션을 이용하면 XE에서 최근에 추가한 Virtual Site(사이트 분양) 기능도 아주 간단하게 사용할 수 있다.
1and1의 리눅스 호스팅의 경우 1and1 Beginner, 1and1 Home, 1and1 Business, 1and1 Developer의 4가지 사양의 호스팅을 선택할 수 있는데, 상위 2개의 서비스인 1and1 Business, 1and1 Developer에서는 Secure Shell (SSH) Access을 지원하기 때문에 FTP와 연계해서 사용하면 단 몇 분만에 간단히 XE를 설치할 수 있다(최신 버전의 XE는 전체 파일이 3500여개를 넘기때문에, 설치용 zip 파일의 압축을 푼 후에 FTP를 이용해서 업로드하는 방식으로 XE를 설치한다면, 업로드에만 20~30여분의 시간이 소요되며 이러한 과정에서 파일이 누락되서 에러가 발생하기도 한다)

Avoid 1and1. They roped me in to a 3 year contract without my knowledge.
I was a week late baying a $7 domain fee because I had lost and cancelled my ATM card. So they immediately pulled my site offline, with only one email which did not have a clear subject line. They then had the gall to charge me a $18 “late fee” because my $7 was three weeks late.
So I go to cancel my account, and they tell me it will need a $99 cancellation fee. Just to check, I went back to fill out the forms to start a new hosting service, just as had done originally. NOWHERE could I see ANYTHING about a contract. Maybe it was in the fine print, but that is really shady. They did try to upsell me two different crap softwarares, Norton for $5 a month and a shopping cart for $10.
These people are sleazy. You can do way better. Avoid them like the plague.
